In the pages of 2022’s Daredevil #5 by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, Matt Murdock shares a chilling exchange with John Walker, the U.S. Agent. Walker, leading a strike team of Thunderbolts sanctioned by Mayor Wilson Fisk, prepares to take the Man Without Fear into custody. As Walker boasts that he is “right with God,” Daredevil simply cuts the lights. Enveloping his enemy in a familiar darkness, he retorts: “If you were… He wouldn’t have sent the Devil”.

Judging by the grin worn by Charlie Cox in the first trailer for Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, the MCU’s version of New York City has officially gone to Hell—and the Devil is loving every second of it. Following the tectonic shifts of the first season, the new footage reveals a city in total chaos, governed by fear and a Mayor who has successfully weaponized the law against the very heroes who once protected it.

The Return of the Black Suit: A Charles Soule Homage

The most striking visual in the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 trailer is Matt Murdock’s wardrobe change. While he spent much of the first season in his classic red, we now see him donning a sleek, intimidating black version of his costume. This isn’t just a stylistic choice; it’s a direct nod to the 2015 comic book run by writer Charles Soule and artists Ron Garney and Phil Noto.

In that run, Daredevil returned to a more grounded, gritty aesthetic after a stint in San Francisco. This era of the comics is also famous for introducing the sadistic artist-killer Muse, who served as a primary antagonist in Born Again’s first season. Seeing the black suit return suggests that Season 2 will lean further into the darker, more visceral storytelling that defined the Netflix era, blending it with the high-stakes political drama of modern Marvel.

Adapting “Devil’s Reign”: Mayor Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante War

While the suit comes from Soule, the plot appears to be pulling heavily from the Zdarsky/Checchetto epic Devil’s Reign. In that storyline, Wilson Fisk’s deep-seated hatred for Daredevil drives him to use his powers as Mayor to outlaw all costumed vigilantes. The trailer confirms this arc is alive and well in the MCU, showcasing Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force holding citizens in lockdown while Murdock leads a grassroots resistance.

Interestingly, Vincent D’Onofrio’s version of Fisk remains more nuanced than his comic counterpart. The first half of the trailer juxtaposes chaos with idyllic images: safe citizens laughing with police and Matt Murdock sharing a tender dance with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). This reflects the MCU Fisk’s delusion that he is the “savior” of the city, a man who genuinely believes his iron-fisted rule can provide the peace that costumed heroes could not.

New Allies and Old Demons: Bullseye, Jessica Jones, and Beyond

The psychological war between Fisk and Murdock is only complicated by the wildcards entering the fray. The trailer highlights the return of Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter (Wilson Bethel), the assassin known as Bullseye. After killing Matt’s best friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) in the premiere of the first season and attempting to assassinate Fisk himself, Dex is back on the streets—and his presence is a nightmare for both sides of the conflict.

But Matt isn’t fighting alone. Beyond the emotional anchor of Karen Page, Daredevil is finally getting some super-powered reinforcements. The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 trailer provides a thrilling look at Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones. Her wry, sparky attitude is instantly recognizable as she trades barbs with Matt, signaling that the “Defenders” era of street-level heroism is truly integrating into the broader Disney+ tapestry.

Finally, we have the new faces adding layers to the conspiracy. Matthew Lillard makes his debut as “Mr. Charles,” a mysterious figure who appears to be pulling strings behind the scenes. Alongside Arty Froushan’s Buck Cashman and Michael Gandolfini’s Daniel Blake, Fisk’s inner circle is expanding, even as the public begins to protest his authoritarian policies.

The trailer culminates in a shot of a boxing match—a symbolic callback to Matt’s father, Battlin’ Jack Murdock—pitting Fisk against an unidentified fighter. Whether it’s a PR stunt or a brutal necessity, it proves that despite his suit and tie, the Kingpin can never truly leave his violent past behind.

The Final Round

With a release date set for March 24, 2026, on Disney+, the countdown to the greatest rivalry in Marvel history has begun. Between the comic-accurate “Shadowland” suit and the return of fan-favorite Netflix characters, Season 2 is shaping up to be the mature, high-octane drama fans have been begging for since 2018.

What was your favorite moment from the trailer? Do you think Foggy Nelson is actually gone, or is Marvel hiding a resurrection twist? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
