It’s that time of year again.

Disney has announced that it will be raising the prices of its streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select. This marks the third consecutive year the company has implemented a price hike, and it will go into effect on October 21, 2025. The announcement comes on the heels of a highly controversial period for the company, following its decision to suspend late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over comments he made about a political figure.

The price increases affect both standalone plans and most bundles, with the goal of increasing revenue for the company’s streaming division. The price changes are part of a larger strategy as Disney moves to fully integrate Hulu into Disney+ by 2026.

What The New Prices Look Like

The most notable changes are to the standalone Disney+ and Hulu plans. The ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu plans will both increase from $9.99 to $11.99 per month. The ad-free Disney+ Premium plan will see a significant jump from $15.99 to $18.99 per month. However, the premium, ad-free version of Hulu will remain at $18.99 per month.

The price of ESPN Select, a more limited version of the new ESPN Unlimited app, will also increase from $11.99 to $12.99 per month.

Here is a table breaking down the new pricing for Disney’s streaming services:

Disney+ Premium (no ads)$18.99$15.99
Hulu (with ads)$11.99$9.99

Timing Amid Controversy

The announcement of the price hikes comes just as the company faces public backlash over its handling of the Jimmy Kimmel controversy. Disney and its subsidiary, ABC, suspended Kimmel from his late-night show following his on-air remarks about the killer of a political activist. The move led to widespread calls for subscribers to cancel their services in protest.

While Disney has since announced that Kimmel’s show will return to ABC, two major affiliate groups, Nexstar Media and Sinclair, have stated they will not air his program for the time being. Although Disney claims the price hikes were planned for weeks, the timing has intensified the public scrutiny. This third price hike in as many years, combined with the recent political fallout, will be a test of consumer loyalty for the streaming giant.
