The wait has been so long that some fans joked we’d be watching Euphoria Season 3 from our retirement homes. But today, January 14, Sam Levinson and HBO finally silenced the skeptics. The official trailer for the third installment of the prestige drama has arrived, and it is every bit as chaotic, neon-drenched, and anxiety-inducing as we hoped.
If the teaser is any indication, the “bridge” episodes and the long hiatus were just the calm before a very localized, very stylish storm. Mark your calendars: Euphoria Season 3 officially debuts on HBO and Max on April 12.
The Time Jump: Life After East Highland
For years, rumors swirled that the show would move away from the hallways of East Highland High. The trailer confirms it: we are officially in the “post-grad” era. We meet Zendaya’s Rue Bennett “a few years after high school,” and it’s clear that the adulthood she imagined isn’t the one she’s living.
Rue appears to be stuck in a cycle that feels all too familiar, working a dead-end job while seemingly slipping back into the dangerous underworld of drug dealing. But the stakes have shifted from “getting caught by mom” to “getting caught by a kingpin.” Laurie, the soft-spoken but terrifying matriarch of the local drug trade, makes a chilling return. She reminds Rue of the debt she owes—a debt that isn’t just financial, but existential. “You belong to me,” Laurie whispers, and suddenly, the glitter of the show’s aesthetic feels a lot more like a cage.
The Chaos of Nate and Cassie
If you thought the Season 2 finale was the peak of the Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) drama, think again. The trailer reveals that the pair are—wait for it—engaged to be married. However, “happily ever after” doesn’t seem to be in their vocabulary. While Nate is away at work, the trailer shows Cassie exploring a new “career” path: filming risque content for online viewers. The tension hits a breaking point when Nate catches her in the act. The fallout looks explosive, proving that while they may have traded school dances for engagement rings, the toxicity remains the same.

Where is the Rest of the Crew?
The trailer gives us lightning-fast glimpses into the lives of our other favorites:
Jules (Hunter Schafer): Maddy (Alexa Demie) drops a bombshell, suggesting Jules has turned to being a “sugar baby” to stay afloat. Maddy, in her signature style, remains unimpressed, distancing herself from the lifestyle with a classic, expletive-laden dismissal.
Lexi (Maude Apatow): After her meta-play rocked the school in Season 2, Lexi seems to have found her seat at the table—literally. We see her schmoozing with high-powered men in suits, suggesting she’s parlayed her creative spark into a legitimate career.
Ali (Colman Domingo): Thankfully, Rue still has a North Star. Ali is back, offering the grizzled, honest advice Rue so desperately needs as she navigates her mounting debt to Laurie.

A Star-Studded Guest List
Sam Levinson is known for his eclectic casting, but Season 3 is taking it to a whole new level. The press release accompanying the trailer boasts an almost surreal list of guest stars and new recurring characters:
- The Icons: Sharon Stone and Natasha Lyonne.
- The Artists: Rosalia and Danielle Deadwyler.
- The Wild Cards: NFL legend Marshawn Lynch, horror director Eli Roth, and internet sensations Trisha Paytas and Vinnie Hacker.
We also see Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje playing a menacing figure in a cowboy hat who intimidates Rue at a party, and a mysterious man in full protective gear. Is he a “cleaner” for Laurie’s operation? In the world of Euphoria, a hazmat suit is never a good sign.
“The Problem of Evil”
Technically, the show looks better than ever. Shot on a mix of 35mm and 65mm film, the texture of the trailer is rich, grainy, and cinematic. HBO also released an official logline that hints at the heavy themes of the season:
“A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.”
This isn’t just a show about glitter and bad decisions anymore; it’s a philosophical deep dive into whether these characters can actually outrun their pasts.
The Verdict: Should We Be Worried for Rue?
The most haunting image of the trailer involves a glimpse of a “William Tell” game. For those unfamiliar with the folk tale, it involves shooting an apple off someone’s head with a crossbow. In the context of Rue’s life, it suggests she is being used as a pawn in a very dangerous game.

Between the debt to Laurie and the general sense of post-high school malaise, Season 3 looks like it will be a dark, beautiful, and stressful ride.
Season 3 of Euphoria premieres April 12 on HBO and Max, with weekly episodes to follow.
