In a dramatic shift for the beloved fantasy series, Amazon Prime Video’s “Good Omens” will wrap up its story with a single 90-minute finale, marking a significant change in both format and creative direction.

The show, which captured audiences with its whimsical tale of an unlikely friendship between an angel and a demon, will resume production in early 2025 in Scotland. This announcement comes after production was halted in September following allegations of sexual assault against series creator Neil Gaiman, who will no longer be involved in the production or retain his executive producer credit.

The series has been a standout success for Prime Video since its 2019 debut, featuring the charismatic pairing of Michael Sheen and David Tennant as the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley. While originally planned as a limited series adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel, the show’s popularity led to an expanded story, with its second season drawing from discussions Gaiman reportedly had with Pratchett before the latter’s passing in 2015.

Moving forward, the series remains in experienced hands with Rob Wilkins of Narrativia (representing Pratchett’s estate) and BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole serving as executive producers. The production continues under the joint banner of Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, and Narrativia.

The announcement arrives amid broader industry developments regarding Gaiman-affiliated projects. Disney has temporarily suspended work on “The Graveyard Book” adaptation, while other projects remain in various stages of development. Amazon’s “Anansi Boys,” which completed filming in 2022, is anticipated for a 2025 release. Meanwhile, Netflix’s adaptation of “The Sandman” continues production on its second season, with recent previews shown during Netflix’s Geeked Week suggesting a 2025 premiere.
