Iain Armitage is trading in his genius IQ for a poker face. The Young Sheldon star is returning to CBS for a guest appearance on the network’s hit comedy Ghosts, and this time he’s playing a heightened version of himself.

According to the character description, Armitage will participate in a high-stakes poker game at Woodstone Mansion, the haunted estate at the center of the series. The episode began filming today and is currently scheduled to air on April 16, 2026, giving fans something to look forward to as Season 5 continues.

From Child Prodigy to Poker Player

For seven seasons, Armitage captivated audiences as the titular character in Young Sheldon, CBS’s prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The series concluded its successful run in May 2024, leaving fans wondering what would come next for the talented young actor. This guest appearance on Ghosts marks his first return to the CBS family since the finale.

Armitage’s career began with a memorable turn in HBO’s critically acclaimed Big Little Lies, where he showcased his dramatic chops alongside Hollywood heavyweights. His film credits include Netflix’s Our Souls at Night, Lionsgate’s The Glass Castle, and the indie drama I’m Not Here. He’s also lent his voice to animated projects, bringing young Shaggy to life in Scoob! and voicing Chase in Paramount’s Paw Patrol animated features.

Recognition and Accolades

The young actor’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed by industry professionals. Armitage has earned nominations for a Critics Choice Award for lead actor in a comedy series and a Teen Choice Award in the breakout TV star category. As part of the Big Little Lies ensemble cast, he also received a SAG Award nomination for best ensemble performance.

What to Expect from Ghosts Season 5

Now in its fifth season, Ghosts continues to delight audiences with its unique blend of supernatural comedy and heartfelt storytelling. The series stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Román Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, Rebecca Wisocky, and Devan Chandler Long as the eclectic mix of living and deceased characters inhabiting Woodstone Mansion.

The show comes from CBS Studios in association with Lionsgate Television and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions. Showrunners and executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman lead the creative team, alongside executive producers Richie Keen, Matthew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Martha Howe-Douglas, Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward, Alison Owen (Monumental Television), Angie Stephenson (BBC Studios), Josh Malmuth, John Blickstead, and Trey Kollmer.

A Natural Fit

Armitage playing a heightened version of himself in a poker game at a haunted mansion is exactly the kind of quirky, meta humor that Ghosts excels at. Fans of Young Sheldon will undoubtedly enjoy seeing their favorite child genius in a completely different context, while Ghosts viewers can look forward to a fun celebrity cameo that should deliver plenty of laughs.

Mark your calendars for April 16, 2026, when Armitage brings his comedic timing to Woodstone Mansion. Whether he’s playing poker with the living, the dead, or both remains to be seen—but either way, it’s bound to be entertaining.
