The beginning of the end has arrived. The first-look trailer for the fifth and final season of The Boys dropped today like a bloody, satirical atom bomb at the CCXP fan convention in Brazil, bringing with it a torrent of plot details and the long-awaited on-screen reunion between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.

Prime Video announced that the final season of the R-rated superhero satire will kick off with a two-episode premiere on April 8, 2026, followed by a weekly release leading up to the series finale on May 20.

The Supernatural Trio Reunited

For fans of Supernatural, the single biggest draw is the return of Eric Kripke, the showrunner for both series, uniting his former leads. Jensen Ackles has been a standout since Season 3 as the controversial villain/hero, Soldier Boy, but the new footage provides the first glimpse of Padalecki in his undisclosed role.

The secrecy around Padalecki’s character remains absolute, but the trailer confirms a direct overlap with his former on-screen brother. Padalecki appears in a tracksuit, quickly followed by Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who is subtly visible behind him. The footage also features a visceral, The Boys-typical moment: a scene where someone explodes directly in front of Padalecki’s character, drenching his clothes in blood and signaling that he is immediately thrown into the show’s ultra-violent landscape. While his appearance remains elusive in the trailer, Supernatural alum Misha Collins is also confirmed to join the final season, completing the ultimate fan reunion for the series creator.

Homelander’s World and Butcher’s Endgame

The plot synopsis for Season 5 establishes a terrifying new normal and an explosive climax teased by Kripke and the cast.

The world is now unequivocally “Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims.” The central team is scattered, with Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) finding themselves imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Meanwhile, Annie/Starlight (Erin Moriarty) struggles to rally a resistance against the overwhelming Supe forces, and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) is missing.

The key to the final battle lies with Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher. He reappears with a dangerous, single-minded objective: to wipe every single Supe out of existence using the Godolkin virus—a lethal, Supe-killing pathogen introduced in the spin-off series, Gen V. The synopsis concludes with a promise of massive stakes: “He sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

The Final Resistance and Gen V Crossover

Showrunner Eric Kripke has repeatedly stressed that the events of Gen V Season 2 will bleed directly into the final chapter of The Boys. The resistance movement, led by Annie and A-Train, will serve as a “French Resistance” operating under the oppression of President Homelander. Gen V‘s key players, like Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau, are expected to be vital to this fight.

With Homelander actor Antony Starr writing on social media that fans are “not reaady,” and Kripke himself writing to fans to “Hold onto your dicks and vaginas. ONE LAST TIME,” the final season is shaping up to be the chaotic, brutal, and emotionally devastating conclusion fans have been waiting for. The long-awaited Supernatural reunion is merely the bloody icing on a finale cake that promises to detonate the entire The Boys universe.
