The leather jacket fits, the cigar is lit, and the Spacehog is revving its engines. After years of fan-casting and “hush-hush” rumors circulating through the halls of DC Studios, we finally have our first official look at Jason Momoa as Lobo.

In a surprise social media drop that sent the fandom into a frenzy, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn revealed a fresh teaser for the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) blockbuster, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While the film belongs to Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, it was the intergalactic bounty hunter who stole the spotlight in this brief, high-octane glimpse.

Who is Lobo? The Last Czarnian’s Comic Origins

For those who aren’t deep-diving into 80s back issues, Lobo isn’t your typical caped crusader. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983 (Omega Men #3), Lobo is an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with a resume longer than a Green Lantern’s sector report.

Hailing from the planet Czarnia, Lobo earned his title as “The Last Czarnian” by quite literally wiping out his entire species for a high school science project—and giving himself an ‘A.’ With superhuman strength, an accelerated healing factor that makes Deadpool look fragile, and a complete lack of moral compass, he’s the ultimate anti-hero.

In the teaser, Gunn leans heavily into the source material. We see Lobo making a signature dramatic entrance on his Spacehog—a flying, flame-spewing motorcycle that defies every law of physics. Momoa looks born for the role, embodying the “rough and gruff” aesthetic that has made Lobo a cult favorite for decades.

Why Jason Momoa is the Perfect “Main Man”

Transitioning from Aquaman in the now-defunct DCEU to Lobo in the new DCU might seem like a jump, but for Momoa, this is a homecoming. The actor has been vocal for years about his love for the character, often citing Lobo as his favorite comic book icon.

“Well, this is the role I’ve always wanted to play,” Momoa told ScreenRant during the press cycle for his final Aquaman outing. “That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big… we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character.”

The visual fidelity in the teaser confirms Momoa’s “dead on” claim. From the pale skin and wild hair to the menacing red eyes, the DCU’s Lobo looks like he stepped directly off a 1990s Simon Bisley cover.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow — A Different Kind of Space Fantasy

While the hype for Lobo is deafening, it’s important to remember where this debut is happening. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, is shaping up to be a pivotal pillar of James Gunn’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter.

Starring House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock, the film is a direct adaptation of the celebrated comic run by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Unlike her cousin Clark Kent, who was raised by the loving Kents in Kansas, this Supergirl grew up on a drifting fragment of Krypton, watching everyone around her perish.

According to Gunn, this version of Kara is “a total mess.” The movie is being described as a “space fantasy,” a genre departure from the traditional superhero flick. Director Craig Gillespie recently confirmed the film takes place entirely in outer space, moving away from the terrestrial settings of previous DC outings.

“They are so different in tone,” Gillespie said regarding Supergirl versus Gunn’s Superman. “The whole movie takes place in outer space.”

What Lobo’s Presence Means for the DCU

Lobo’s inclusion in Supergirl suggests a massive expansion of the DCU’s cosmic side. If the “Main Man” is roaming the stars, we can likely expect to see other cosmic entities like the Green Lantern Corps or the Omega Men sooner rather than later.

Momoa did clarify that his role in this specific film might be a “fleeting one,” noting that “it’s her [Milly Alcock’s] movie.” However, casting an A-list star like Momoa for a cameo all but guarantees a solo Lobo project or a recurring role as a foil for the Justice League in the future.
