A shooting star streaks across the Hawaiian night sky, carrying with it not wishes granted but beautiful chaos in the form of a blue, six-limbed alien creature. Disney has unveiled the first full trailer for its highly anticipated live-action “Lilo & Stitch” remake, promising to bring the beloved tale of family and belonging to vibrant life.
The trailer opens on the lush paradise of Hawaii, where we meet Lilo, a spirited but lonely girl desperate for connection after losing her parents. When she wishes upon what appears to be a falling star, her life forever changes – though not quite in the way she imagined. Enter Experiment 626: a genetically engineered alien built for destruction who crash-lands on Earth disguised as an unusual “dog.”
“He is your responsibility. Got it?” warns Lilo’s overwhelmed older sister Nani, to which Lilo replies with innocent conviction: “We promise!” Little does she know what she’s getting herself into.
The footage, set perfectly to Elvis Presley’s warning anthem “You’re the Devil in Disguise” and the film’s signature “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride,” showcases Stitch’s gleeful path of destruction across the island. From terrorizing drivers on the road to demolishing a meticulously crafted sandcastle, drinking lava lamp fluid, and commandeering a golf cart through terrified crowds, his chaotic energy leaps off the screen with stunning visual effects that blend seamlessly with the real world.
In a moment of rare vulnerability, the creature confesses: “Stitch bad,” his large eyes reflecting genuine conflict. Lilo’s response cuts straight to the heart of the film’s message: “Sometimes, family isn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good.”
Dean Fleischer Camp, who enchanted audiences with the Oscar-nominated “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” directs this reimagining while Chris Sanders returns to voice the alien he co-created in the 2002 original. Newcomer Maia Kealoha brings Lilo to life alongside an impressive cast including Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Agudong, Billy Magnussen, and Courtney B. Vance.
With its perfect blend of heart, humor, and Hawaiian culture, this reimagining looks poised to capture a new generation with its timeless message about finding family in unexpected places—even if that family happens to be a destructive alien experiment.
