Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Vanishes Into the Shadows As It Is Taken Off Of The 2025 Release Slate

The hunt for vampires has been postponed as Marvel’s darkest warrior faces his greatest enemy yet: time itself. Disney has struck “Blade” – starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as the legendary vampire hunter – from its 2025 slate, leaving fans thirsting for the Daywalker’s return to the silver screen. In its place, another apex predator emerges, as “Predator: Badlands” claims the coveted November 7 release date.

While Marvel plants its flag in the distant future with three mysterious projects scheduled for 2028, the saga of “Blade” continues its tumultuous dance with destiny. The decision comes in the wake of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s decree limiting Marvel to a mere three films per year – a blood oath that left “Blade” vulnerable among its superhero siblings “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”

The project has been haunted by misfortune since its inception. Directors have come and gone like shadows in the night – first Bassam Tariq, then Yann Demange of “Lovecraft Country” fame – while a parade of writers have attempted to capture the essence of Marvel’s most notorious vampire slayer. From the pandemic’s early darkness to the industry-shaking WGA strike, “Blade” has weathered numerous storms, each delay driving another stake into its original timeline.

Yet Marvel stands firm in its commitment to honor the legacy of the character. Behind closed doors, insiders whisper of an unwavering dedication to crafting a worthy successor to the original trilogy that made Wesley Snipes a legend. As Kevin Feige himself declared, this isn’t just about making another superhero film – it’s about crafting the definitive “Blade” for a new generation.

The project’s origins read like vampire lore itself: In 2019, Mahershala Ali approached Feige at San Diego Comic-Con, pitching himself as the new Eric Brooks – a daywalking vampire hunter blessed with supernatural powers but cursed with an eternal mission to purge the world of bloodsuckers.

In an ironic twist of fate, Snipes himself materialized in this summer’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” delivering a line that now carries extra weight: “There’s only been one Blade. There will only ever be one Blade.” As the film commands the box office with $1.3 billion globally, fans are left wondering when – or if – Ali’s Blade will finally step out of the shadows and into the light.
