Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise welcomes a new addition as Sadie Sink, star of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things,” has been cast in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4” alongside Tom Holland.
While details about Sink’s character remain under wraps, Deadline, which first reported the news, suggests she will play a “significant” role in the film. Speculation has emerged that she might portray Jean Grey, the powerful X-Men mutant previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner.
Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures, the distributor of Spider-Man films within Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, have officially commented on the casting.
The plot for the fourth installment has not been revealed yet. The previous film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021), saw Peter Parker inadvertently fracturing the multiverse, which allowed three versions of Spider-Man—played by Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield—to exist simultaneously. The film concluded with Holland’s character making the heartbreaking choice to erase his identity from everyone’s memory, including his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon).
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the project, taking over from Jon Watts who directed the previous three films. “Spider-Man 4” is scheduled for theatrical release on July 31, 2026.
Sink, 22, gained widespread recognition for her role in “Stranger Things,” which recently completed filming its fifth and final season. Her credits also include starring in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well: The Short Film” alongside Dylan O’Brien. Fans can see her next in Searchlight’s musical “O’Dessa,” which premiered at SXSW, and in her upcoming Broadway debut in “John Proctor Is the Villain” this April.
