Scarlett Johansson Joins Jurassic Park Franchise After Decade-Long Quest: “I’ve Been Trying for Over 10 Years”

by Jake Laycock

After concluding her iconic run as Black Widow in the MCU, Scarlett Johansson has finally achieved her long-standing dream of joining the Jurassic Park universe. The acclaimed actress recently confirmed her casting in the upcoming installment directed by Gareth Edwards.

Hollywood Star Fulfills Her Dinosaur Dream

Scarlett Johansson has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and bankable stars. After dedicating nearly a decade to portraying Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—concluding with 2020’s standalone Black Widow film—Johansson is now embarking on a new adventure in another beloved franchise.

Johansson will star in the next Jurassic Park film, Jurassic World: Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue OneGodzilla) with a script by David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park screenplay.

“I’m an enormous Jurassic Park fan,” she revealed. “It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.”

A Dream Role Years in the Making

What many fans might not realize is that joining the Jurassic Park franchise has been Johansson’s passion project for over a decade. The actress confessed she had been actively pursuing a role in the dinosaur saga for years.

Johansson told producer and franchise creator Steven Spielberg, “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years,” Johansson admitted. “I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it.”

Her persistence finally paid off. “The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can’t believe it,” she added, still processing her good fortune.

A New Chapter for the Prehistoric Saga

The upcoming film marks a significant shift for the franchise as it will be the first Jurassic Park installment not directed by Steven Spielberg. However, the return of original screenwriter David Koepp suggests a potential return to the franchise’s roots.

With Scarlett Johansson as the lead and Gareth Edwards’ proven track record with big-budget sci-fi spectacles, expectations are high for this new chapter in the dinosaur saga.
