Since its early access launch in September 2025, EA’s long-awaited return to the skateboarding franchise has been steadily building momentum. Now, just over three months later, the free-to-play title is dropping its biggest update yet: Season 2, aptly titled “Future Radical.”
As the name suggests, this update is taking San Vansterdam back to the 1980s—an era of neon lights, arcade machines, and the eternal clash between punk and pop culture. But more importantly, it’s bringing substantial gameplay additions that address community feedback while expanding what the always-online skateboarding sandbox can do.

The Big Addition: Co-Op Mode and Party Voice Chat
The headline feature of Season 2 is the introduction of “Own the Lot,” a new cooperative mode that finally gives players a structured way to skate with friends. Inspired by classic challenges from the original Skate trilogy, Own the Lot tasks groups of 1-4 players with completing as many “Reqs” (requirements) as possible within a 2-5 minute time limit.
The rewards scale based on performance:
- Nailed It (5+ Reqs): 20 Tix
- Owned It (10+ Reqs): 30 Tix
- Crushed It (15+ Reqs): 40 Tix
- Killed It (25+ Reqs): 55 Tix
- Shut it Down (40+ Reqs): 70 Tix
Rewards stack, meaning hitting “Killed It” on your first attempt grants all lower-tier rewards you haven’t claimed yet. Fair warning: the difficulty scales significantly with party size, and Full Circle recommends a full four-person squad to realistically achieve “Shut it Down” tier.

Supporting this new mode is the addition of Party Voice Chat, complete with accessibility features including menu narration, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text. Players can now drop Party Beacons through the Comms Wheel, making it easier to signal friends and coordinate sessions across San Vansterdam’s sprawling map.
New Skateable Areas
Season 2 isn’t just about adding features—it’s expanding the city itself. Four new permanent skateable areas are being added:
- Casper Hotel Rooftop: Taking the action vertical with rooftop lines
- Eelside Tunnel: Underground passages carved into San Van’s bedrock
- Museum of Natural History Roof Patio: Cultural landmarks meet skate spots
- Canal Building: New street-level challenges along the waterfront
These areas complement Season 2’s emphasis on verticality and exploration, giving players fresh terrain to master long after the season ends.
Impossibles and Expanded Handplants
For the first time in franchise history, skate is introducing Impossible flips—that iconic Rodney Mullen trick where the board wraps vertically around your back foot. The new tricks include:
- Impossible Flips
- Front Foot Impossible Flips
- Nollie Impossible Flips
- Nollie Back Foot Impossible Flips

All variants can be performed as held, late, or from grinds and manuals, adding serious depth to your trick vocabulary.
Handplants are getting massive love too, expanding from 2 variants to 16 total options. You can now perform one-foot, no-foot, and tweaked handplants—all executable in fakie. More importantly, handplants can now be held for varying durations and chained back-to-back within the same plant, opening up creative possibilities that simply didn’t exist before.

Replay Editor Gets Its First Major Upgrade
Content creators, rejoice. The Replay Editor is receiving Advanced Editor Mode, featuring:
- Enhanced trimming capabilities
- Keyframes and interpolation between camera types
- New framing options including roll, tilt, and offset
- The ability to switch camera targets mid-replay

Full Circle promises this is just the first wave of replay upgrades, with more features planned throughout early access. If you’re looking to showcase your best lines or create cinematic skate films, these tools significantly expand what’s possible.
More to Do, More to Earn
One of the biggest complaints about Season 1 was the lack of fresh weekly content. Season 2 directly addresses this with a restructured challenge system:
- Daily Tasks (4 per day)
- Weekly Tasks (6 per week, lasting 3 weeks)
- Monthly Tasks (10 per month, lasting 4-5 weeks)
- Event Tasks (6-10 per week during events)
- Own the Lot Tasks (4 per season)
Seasonal Challenges will now refresh twice during the season, giving players roughly 4x as many opportunities to earn Tix compared to Season 1. While individual challenges award fewer Tix, the total earnable amount more than doubles: from 42,011 in Season 1 to 76,357 in Season 2.
skate.Pass Improvements
The skate.Pass has been rebalanced based on community feedback:
- 100 total tiers (40 Standard/Free, 60 Premium)
- 92 cosmetic items across both tracks
- 500 San Van Bucks total for completing both tracks
- A hilariously cheap pair of pants for just 1 Tix
Premium track holders also get Reginald, the Ratty Patty mascot, as this season’s signature reward. New brand partnerships with OJ, Ricta, Sci-Fi Fantasy, and adidas bring fresh gear to San Vansterdam’s streets.
New Music and Seasonal Events
Season 2 adds 25 new tracks to the in-game soundtrack, including classics like Public Enemy’s “Public Enemy No. 1,” Suicidal Tendencies’ “You Can’t Bring Me Down,” and Motörhead’s “Overkill.” The complete list drops next week.
Two seasonal events will keep things fresh:
Winter Roll-stice (December 16 – January 13): Celebrating year-round skateboarding during unseasonably warm winter weather.
Spring Pop-Off (February 10 – March 3): Making maximum noise to drive out the geese, featuring fireworks and themed cosmetics.
Both events include community park updates and event-specific currency for exclusive rewards.

Quality of Life Upgrades
Several new settings address common player requests:
- Hold Fakie Push: Maintain fakie stance even after pushing
- Grind Lean Exit Toggle: Disable accidental grind exits during deep leans
- Maximum Pump Strength: Control pumping speed via Assists menu
- Compass Toggle: Hide the HUD compass if desired
Expanded drop-in functionality now works on very tall vertical walls, with smoother transitions from drop-in to air.
The Road Ahead
Season 2 represents a significant evolution for skate, addressing criticism while doubling down on what makes the game special: a constantly evolving city, deep trick systems, and genuine freedom to skate your way. The addition of meaningful co-op content and party voice chat transforms what was previously a somewhat solitary experience into something truly social.

With Early Access still ongoing, Full Circle continues refining the foundation before the game’s full launch. Season 2 “Future Radical” proves they’re listening to feedback and willing to make substantial changes to deliver on the franchise’s 15-year comeback promise.
Welcome to San Vansterdam in the 1980s. Grab your board, call your crew, and own the lot.
