The Marvel leak season continues. Just one day after footage from Avengers: Doomsday appeared online, a low-quality trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also surfaced—and it’s dropping significant hints about one of the film’s most closely guarded secrets: who Sadie Sink is actually playing.

The Leak That Confirms Itself

The leaked trailer is grainy and difficult to see clearly, but like the Avengers footage before it, copyright claims are rapidly removing it from the internet—effectively confirming its authenticity. According to reports, the video originated from a market research application that provides early access to marketing materials for audience testing purposes.

While the visual quality makes it challenging to discern specific details, the audio comes through much clearer. And what viewers can hear is revealing: Sadie Sink’s character not only knows Peter Parker’s secret identity as Spider-Man, but she’s actively threatening him.

A Threatening Voice in the Darkness

The most significant dialogue in the leaked footage comes directly from Sink’s mystery character, whose words carry unmistakable menace.

“You’re a mess, Spider-Man. Don’t get in my way. Otherwise, it won’t just be your friends who don’t remember who Peter Parker is.”

This line raises fascinating questions about the character’s nature and motivations. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange’s spell made the entire world forget Peter Parker’s identity—a sacrifice Peter made to protect those he loved. Yet somehow, Sink’s character knows exactly who he is behind the mask.

The threat she delivers is particularly chilling because it targets the one thing Peter has left: the knowledge that his friends MJ and Ned are safe precisely because they don’t remember him. It’s a psychological weapon aimed at Peter’s greatest vulnerability.

Who Is Sadie Sink Playing?

Sony has kept Sink’s role under tight wraps since announcing her casting. Recent on-set photos showed the Stranger Things star bundled up in layers, apparently to prevent anyone from glimpsing her costume—an unusual level of secrecy that only intensified fan speculation.

Theories about her character have ranged widely, from X-Men’s Jean Grey to Mayday Parker, Peter’s daughter from alternate timelines. However, one persistent rumor has suggested she’s playing Shathra, a shapeshifting multiversal villain from Spider-Man comics.

The threatening dialogue in this leaked trailer has strengthened that theory considerably. Shathra would make sense as an antagonist who somehow possesses knowledge that should be impossible to have, and her multiversal nature could explain how she bypassed Strange’s memory-wiping spell.

Sink herself has been playfully coy about the speculation, particularly regarding theories focused on redheaded Marvel characters.

“A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but, yeah, I understand all of the theories… Tom [Holland] can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me and I’m [wrapped up] like a penguin. That’ll be the situation for a bit, it seems.”

You can see some of our picks for who we feel Sink is perfect to play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day here.

Could It Be a Misdirect?

Spider-Man movies have a history of surprising audiences with character reveals. Remember when everyone thought Zendaya was playing Mary Jane Watson, only to learn she was Michelle Jones who just happened to go by “MJ”? Or when Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck seemed like a heroic ally before revealing himself as the villainous Mysterio?

Given this track record, some fans wonder if the threatening dialogue is a deliberate misdirect. Perhaps Sink’s character starts as an antagonist before her true nature is revealed. This theory gains weight from reports that Sink will return for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Would Marvel really cast an actress of Sink’s caliber for a single-film villain role, especially one important enough to carry into the next Avengers film?

The answer might be yes—or the situation might be more complex than it initially appears.

Other Trailer Reveals

Beyond Sink’s character, the leaked footage contains other intriguing details. The trailer apparently begins with Peter Parker revealing his identity to someone, though the visual quality makes it impossible to determine who. This could be a flashback, a dream sequence, or perhaps Peter confiding in someone new—a risky move given how his last attempt at openness ended.

Spider-Man also references “Professor Banner” in the trailer, confirming what has been an open secret: Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner appears in the film. Marvel has remained officially coy about Ruffalo’s involvement, but the Hulk’s presence in a Spider-Man movie opens intriguing narrative possibilities, particularly given Banner’s scientific expertise and his connection to the broader MCU.

Perhaps most exciting for fans of Marvel’s Netflix era is the appearance of Frank Castle, the Punisher, once again played by Jon Bernthal. In the trailer, Frank tells Peter he’s there to “save your ass”—a line that immediately establishes the unlikely alliance between the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and Marvel’s most lethal vigilante.

Bernthal’s Punisher was a highlight of the Netflix Marvel shows, and his integration into the MCU proper has been long anticipated by fans. Seeing him team up with Spider-Man promises a fascinating clash of ideologies between two heroes with very different approaches to justice.

An Unprecedented Leak Season

This Spider-Man leak comes during what might be the most intense period of unauthorized Marvel footage releases in recent memory. With Avengers: Doomsday footage leaking just yesterday and now Brand New Day following suit, Marvel’s typically tight security seems to be facing unprecedented challenges.

The studio still plans to officially release its first Doomsday footage alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters. Reports suggest Marvel will deploy four different trailers over four consecutive weeks to encourage repeat Avatar viewings, with each focusing on a different character.

Given this carefully orchestrated marketing strategy, it seems clear the Spider-Man trailer wasn’t meant to be seen by the public for quite some time. Whether these leaks will force Marvel to adjust its rollout plans remains to be seen.

What We’re Left Wondering

The leaked footage raises as many questions as it answers. How does Sink’s character know Peter’s identity when the entire world has forgotten? Is she truly a villain, or is there more to her story? What brings Bruce Banner and Frank Castle into Peter’s orbit? And perhaps most intriguingly, what role will Sink’s character play in the larger MCU if she’s returning for Secret Wars?

These mysteries will have to wait for official answers—or perhaps more leaks in what’s shaping up to be Marvel’s most challenging period for keeping secrets. For now, fans can only speculate about what Brand New Day has in store, armed with a grainy trailer and one very threatening voice in the darkness.
