As fans gear up for the much-anticipated premiere of “The Boys” Season 4, showrunner Eric Kripke has dropped a bombshell: the R-rated superhero saga will end with its fifth season.
“#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is the perfect moment to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” Kripke shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). His post featured a redacted screenshot of the Season 4 finale script. “Always my plan, but I had to keep it hush-hush until Vought gave the final nod. Excited to deliver a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, because the end has begun!”
Since its debut in 2019, “The Boys” has captivated audiences with its dark, satirical take on a world dominated by the corrupt superhero mega-corporation, Vought. The series follows the intense clash between the superpowered “supes” and the titular “Boys,” a group of humans seeking revenge for the havoc wreaked on their lives.
The ensemble cast features Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. Season 4 introduces Jeffrey Dean Morgan, reuniting with fellow “Supernatural” alum Jensen Ackles, who joined in Season 3 as Soldier Boy.
“The Boys” is brought to life by an impressive team of executive producers, including Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Judalina Neira, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, and comic creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures, the Emmy-winning drama has kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Rumors of the show’s impending conclusion have swirled since Amazon renewed “The Boys” for Season 5 just before the cast and crew started promoting Season 4, which premieres with three episodes this Thursday. Kripke had hinted at needing at least five seasons to fully tell the story, but the May 14 renewal didn’t confirm it as the final season, sparking speculation.
“The Boys” has inspired several spinoffs, including the animated anthology “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” and the live-action college series “Gen V,” currently in production for its second season. Two more projects are in development: one set in Mexico and another recently announced by Kripke.
