The Morning Show is back, and the world of UBA is more tumultuous than ever. With Season 4 now streaming on Apple TV+, viewers are thrust back into the high-stakes world of broadcast news, deepfakes, and corporate intrigue. But how did we get here?
The past three seasons have been a whirlwind of scandal, power grabs, and personal redemption. If your memory is a little fuzzy on the details of UBA’s chaotic journey, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with a complete recap of the essential storylines before you dive into the new season.
Season 1: The Reckoning

The series erupts with the firing of beloved co-anchor Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) over sexual misconduct allegations, throwing the flagship program into chaos. His longtime partner, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston), is blindsided and furious at the network for its hypocrisy.
Enter Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), a fiery field reporter from West Virginia who goes viral in a heated protest confrontation. Network CEO Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup), a master manipulator with a vision, sees Bradley as a catalyst for change. In a stunning power play, Alex usurps corporate control and announces live on air that Bradley will be her new co-host.
As the season progresses, the toxic culture at UBA is exposed. We learn through flashbacks that talent booker Hannah Shoenfeld (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) was assaulted by Mitch and then silenced with a promotion by network president Fred Micklen (Tom Irwin). Bradley and producer Mia Jordan (Karen Pittman) begin digging into the cover-up, planning an explosive on-air interview with Mitch. Their plan is tragically derailed when Hannah dies of a drug overdose.
In the seismic season finale, a grief-stricken and enraged Alex goes completely off-script. Alongside Bradley, she exposes UBA and Fred live on television for enabling Mitch and fostering a corrosive environment, declaring, “What happened to Hannah Shoenfeld is not an isolated incident.” The feed is cut, but the message is sent: the revolution will be televised.
Season 2: The Pandemic and The Fallout

Picking up months after the explosive finale, the fallout is severe. Cory is fired (though later reinstated), Alex has fled to a secluded life in Maine, and Bradley is struggling to anchor a floundering show with new co-host Eric Nomani (Hasan Minhaj).
Cory lures Alex back to UBA just as a new crisis emerges: the COVID-19 pandemic. The season masterfully weaves the real-world panic and lockdowns into its narrative. Meanwhile, in Italy, a hiding Mitch is collaborating with documentarian Paola Lambruschini (Valeria Golino) on a project where he finally shows remorse for his actions. In a devastating turn, a despondent Mitch dies by suicide.
Bradley’s personal life becomes front-page news when she begins a relationship with veteran anchor Laura Peterson (Julianna Margulies). Their romance forces Bradley to confront her identity and sexuality publicly. The season also explores the aftermath of Mitch’s death and a wrongful death lawsuit from Hannah’s family.
The season concludes with the world in lockdown. Alex, now infected with COVID-19, delivers a raw, emotional monologue from her home, defiantly stating she is done apologizing for who she is. Simultaneously, Cory helps Bradley find her estranged, addict brother Hal (Joe Tippett)—and in a moment of shocking vulnerability, confesses he is in love with her.
Season 3: The Corporate Takeover

Two years later, the battle is no longer just for the soul of the newsroom, but for the entire network. UBA is bleeding money, and Cory is desperate to save its streaming service, UBA+. He secretly courts Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), a charismatic tech billionaire, for a buyout.
Alex, now dating Paul, is initially a champion of the merger. However, she soon discovers his plan is to asset-strip and dismantle UBA. This pits her against Cory, who is fighting to save his legacy, and allies her with news division president Stella Bak (Greta Lee) and a returning Bradley, who is now an evening news anchor.
The season escalates with a devastating cyberattack on UBA that exposes everyone’s secrets. Most damningly, it’s revealed that Bradley and Cory covered up her brother Hal’s involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, deleting footage that showed him assaulting a police officer. Laura discovers the truth, fracturing her relationship with Bradley for good.
Paul proves to be a ruthless adversary, using the information on Hal to blackmail Bradley and planting a story that Cory was “grooming” her. In a nail-biting board vote to decide the company’s fate, Alex forces Paul to withdraw his offer by threatening to expose that his company’s faulty tech caused the Season 3 opening rocket launch malfunction. In a last-minute save, Alex brokers a merger with Laura’s network, NBN, saving UBA from oblivion. The season ends with Bradley deciding to cooperate with the authorities regarding January 6, and Alex standing by her side, ready to face an uncertain future.
Where We Stand as Season 4 Begins
“The Morning Show” returns with Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) almost two years after the events of Season 3. The UBA-NBN merger is now complete, and per the season’s synopsis, “the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.”
This season dives headfirst into the modern chaos of misinformation. “In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups — who can you trust? And how can you know what’s actually real?”
As director and executive producer Mimi Leder stated, this season is about “journalists in jeopardy, journalists under threat, and our main theme this season is trust – who can you trust?” While the show has famously tackled real-world events, Leder confirmed it will not cover the 2024 Presidential Election, instead focusing on “AI, deepfakes, [and] environmental tragedies.”
With a powerful merger, past secrets looming, and the very nature of truth under attack, Alex and Bradley are about to face their greatest challenge yet. As Jennifer Aniston promised, it’s “jam-packed, that’s for sure.” Strap in and get ready for another unforgettable season.
