The Marvel Cinematic Universe just got a major upgrade. Emmy-nominated actor Tramell Tillman, known for his chilling performance as Seth Milchick in Apple TV+’s psychological thriller “Severance,” is trading corporate mind control for web-slinging action as he joins the cast of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
Sony and Marvel’s highly anticipated fourth Spider-Man film has landed one of television’s most compelling performers, though details about Tillman’s mysterious character remain locked in the Marvel vault. He’ll share the screen with returning favorites Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Zendaya (M.J. Jones-Watson), and Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), while joining an impressive roster of newcomers including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, “Stranger Things” star Sadie Sink, and “The Bear’s” Liza Colón-Zayas.
The casting represents a significant moment for Tillman, who has been experiencing a meteoric rise in Hollywood. His portrayal of the unsettling wellness counselor in “Severance” earned him Emmy recognition as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, making history as the first openly gay Black man nominated in the category. The role also brought SAG and Independent Spirit Award nominations, cementing his status as one of the industry’s most exciting talents.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the web-slinging adventure, bringing his unique storytelling vision to the beloved franchise. With a theatrical release date set for July 31, 2026, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” promises to deliver the spectacular action and emotional depth that fans have come to expect.
Tillman’s journey to the Marvel universe showcases his remarkable range. From sharing the screen with Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” at Cannes to his acclaimed theater work on Broadway, he’s consistently chosen projects that challenge both himself and audiences.
“I’m not playing small for nobody. I’m not dimming my light for anybody,” Tillman recently told Variety, reflecting on his approach to his craft. “Those days are done. Myself, stepping into that level of thinking and embodying, that is my own form of revolution.”
With “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” still in development and multiple projects in production, including Amazon’s “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother” and Lena Dunham’s Netflix film “Good Sex,” Tillman is proving that his revolutionary approach to storytelling is exactly what Hollywood needs.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently slated to release July 31, 2026.
