Mike White is trading the serene temples of Thailand for the sun-drenched decadence of the French Riviera. As the mastermind behind HBO’s most biting social satire continues to pen the fourth installment of The White Lotus, new details have emerged regarding the ultra-exclusive backdrop for the next round of guest-on-staff carnage. The production is officially heading to the Côte d’Azur, where the primary playground for the rich and miserable will be the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez. This 19th-century palace-turned-luxury hotel is the stuff of dreams—and likely nightmares for the characters—sprawling across 32 acres of cypress trees and jasmine. With suites ranging from $3,000 to a staggering $8,000 per night, the property offers the exact brand of “obscene wealth” that the series skewers so effectively, complete with Rolls-Royce transfers to the beach and a world-class spa.

A Summer of Scandal on the Riviera

Saint-Tropez White Lotus

The production timeline for this fourth outing is as expansive as the scenery. Filming is slated to begin in late April 2026 and will stretch through the end of October. True to Mike White’s meticulous style, the show won’t be confined to a single resort. While the Château de La Messardière serves as a central hub, the production will also lens at various other venues across the Riviera and even spend some time at a luxury hotel in Paris. This geographic variety suggests a season that feels more mobile and expansive than its predecessors, perhaps capturing the frantic energy of the European summer season.

Red Carpets and Rumors: The Cannes Connection

While the plot is being guarded more closely than a hotel safe, industry whispers suggest that the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival could play a pivotal role in the narrative. The timing certainly aligns perfectly; the festival runs from May 13 to May 26, right in the heart of the show’s filming window. Integrating the chaos of a high-profile film festival would be a natural fit for the series, providing a perfect stage for the themes of ego, fame, and performative wealth that White loves to explore. Imagine the drama of a mid-tier starlet or a desperate producer trying to navigate the hierarchy of a French luxury hotel during the most stressful two weeks in cinema.

Fresh Faces Join the Anthology

Casting for the new season is already in full swing, and the ensemble is beginning to take shape with some exciting additions. Alexander Ludwig, known for his rugged roles in Vikings and Earth Abides, and AJ Michalka of The Goldbergs fame, are the first new cast members confirmed to be checking in. They join a legacy of prestige acting that most recently saw the Thailand-set Season 3 earn eight acting Emmy nominations. As for returning favorites, the “White Lotus” universe is notoriously stingy with recurring roles, with only Jennifer Coolidge, Natasha Rothwell, and Jon Gries having appeared in more than one season. Whether a familiar face from a previous vacation will wander into the lobby of the Château de La Messardière remains the biggest mystery of all.
