The cosmopolitans have been poured for the last time. HBO Max’s “And Just Like That” will conclude after its current third season. This will bring Carrie Bradshaw’s decades-long journey to a definitive close.
Showrunner Michael Patrick King broke the news Friday, revealing that the decision crystallized while writing the season finale. “I realized this might be a wonderful place to stop,” King shared on social media. He also announced that the final season will expand from 10 to 12 episodes. It will feature a special two-part conclusion.
The timing feels intentional. King and Sarah Jessica Parker deliberately delayed the announcement. This was to preserve viewers’ enjoyment of the season. They did this without the shadow of finality hanging over each episode.
The End of an Era
This marks the conclusion of a cultural phenomenon that began 26 years ago. The original “Sex and the City” launched in 1998, running six groundbreaking seasons before spawning two feature films. “And Just Like That” premiered in 2021 as a direct sequel. It reunited three-quarters of the iconic quartet: Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. Notably, it proceeded without Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.
The series served as the second spinoff in the franchise. It followed 2013’s prequel “The Carrie Diaries.” This prequel explored Bradshaw’s teenage years across two seasons.
With its extended finale, “And Just Like That” promises to give fans—and these beloved characters—the send-off they deserve. For years, we followed Carrie’s romantic misadventures. We watched her friendships through Manhattan’s ever-changing landscape. This final goodbye feels inevitable. It also feels bittersweet.
And just like that, it’s really over.
