In the world of Hollywood remakes, scale is everything—and they don’t come much bigger than a fifty-foot-tall heiress with a score to settle.
While many 1950s sci-fi staples like Fantastic Voyage and Creature from the Black Lagoon have languished in “development hell” for decades, Tim Burton’s reimagining of “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” is moving full steam ahead at Warner Bros. The project just received a massive shot of adrenaline with the hiring of a new screenwriting duo who currently hold the “golden touch” in the industry.

The ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Takeover
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan have been tapped to write the latest draft of the script, taking the baton from Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn.
If those names sound familiar, it’s because they are the architects behind the 2025 cultural phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters. To say that movie was a “hit” is an understatement; it became Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time and translated that streaming success into a dominant box office run and a trophy-room-shattering awards season.
“We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty,” the duo told The Hollywood Reporter. “We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”
By bringing on the writers behind the Grammy-nominated and Annie Award-winning KPop hit, Warner Bros. is signaling a shift in tone. While Flynn’s initial involvement suggested a darker, more psychological thriller, Jimenez and McMechan bring a vibrant, high-energy, and relatably subversive edge that feels perfectly aligned with Tim Burton’s whimsical-yet-macabre aesthetic.
A Legacy of Female Rage
The original 1958 film, written by Mark Hanna, followed Nancy Fowler Archer—a wealthy heiress who encounters an alien and begins to grow to a gargantuan size. In the original, her giant stature is the ultimate tool for revenge against a cheating, manipulative husband.
In the hands of Jimenez and McMechan, this isn’t just a monster movie; it’s a manifesto. The duo has already proven their ability to blend genre thrills with sharp social commentary. Before their meteoric rise with KPop Demon Hunters, they were mentored by Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman and have worked on everything from a queer Western to a high-concept Shrek spin-off centered on Lord Farquaad.
The Margot Robbie Factor: Will the Giantess Be a Barbie?
The biggest question mark remaining is the casting of Nancy Archer herself. Back in August 2025, reports surfaced that Margot Robbie was in talks to lead the film.

While no official confirmation has been made, the pieces are falling into place for a “LuckyChap” style victory. Robbie’s production company is known for championing bold, female-led narratives (look no further than Barbie or the upcoming Wuthering Heights), and the combination of Robbie, Burton, and the KPop Demon Hunters writers would make this an instant “Must-Watch” of the late 2020s.
Breaking the Remake Curse
History hasn’t been kind to 1950s sci-fi remakes. For every The Fly (1986), there are a dozen Forbidden Planet reboots that never saw the light of day. However, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has three things going for it that others lacked:
The Burton Brand: A director whose visual style is synonymous with mid-century nostalgia.
Modern Relevance: The “man did her dirty” revenge arc is more resonant today than ever.
The Writers: Jimenez and McMechan are currently the most sought-after voices for capturing the zeitgeist.
As we look toward a potential 2027 release, one thing is certain: when Nancy Archer finally stands tall on the big screen, she’s going to have a lot to say—and the whole world will be looking up.
