Apple TV+’s The Studio has officially cemented its place in television history, dominating the Emmy Awards and breaking multiple records for a comedy series. With an astonishing 13 wins, the freshman series has surpassed the previous record set by The Bear in 2023. The show’s historic night was capped off with the top prize: Outstanding Comedy Series.
Beyond the series’ overall success, star and co-creator Seth Rogen had a historic night of his own, tying the record for most Emmys won by an individual in a single night.
A Record-Setting Night for Seth Rogen
On Sunday’s main ceremony, Seth Rogen’s name was called repeatedly. He won two awards: one for Lead Comedy Actor and another for Directing for the episode “The Oner,” a prize he shared with Evan Goldberg. The directing win alone was enough to break the freshman comedy record and tie the all-time record for a comedy series.
The show’s writing was also recognized. The pilot episode, “The Promotion,” won for Comedy Series Writing, a win shared by Rogen, Goldberg, Frida Pérez, Peter Huyck, and Alex Gregory. This victory made Pérez the first Latina to win a comedy writing Emmy and only the second Latino ever to win as a producer in a top series category.
A Clean Sweep Across the Board
The Studio‘s winning streak began even before the main event. At the Creative Arts ceremony, the show took home nine awards, including a guest acting win for Bryan Cranston. The show was also recognized for its exceptional craft and technical achievements in categories like Casting, Cinematography, and Music Supervision. Many winners took the opportunity to hilariously thank Sal Saperstein, the fictional studio executive from the show played by Ike Barinholtz.
With 23 Emmy nominations, The Studio had already broken the record for the most-nominated freshman comedy, a record previously held by Ted Lasso. By the end of the night, it had tied the record for the most-nominated comedy series ever, a record The Bear set in 2024 for its second season.
This landmark year for The Studio marks a banner year for Apple TV+, which earned the most nominations in its history and had the most-nominated series of the year with the psychological drama Severance. The Emmy victories for The Studio solidify its place as a comedy powerhouse and a new benchmark for excellence in television.
