Just when we thought the toy box was closed for good, Pixar has officially invited us back for one more adventure. The first full trailer for Toy Story 5 has officially dropped, and it’s doing more than just reuniting Woody and Buzz. It’s introducing a massive, star-studded ensemble designed to tackle the franchise’s most modern threat yet: the iPad.
Slated for a June 19, 2026 release, the fifth installment finds our favorite toys in a literal battle for Bonnie’s attention. But while the “Toys vs. Tech” storyline has fans buzzing, it’s the Toy Story 5 voice cast that is truly stealing the spotlight. From high-tech antagonists to emotional legacy recasts, here is everything you need to know about who is voicing the characters in Pixar’s next big hit.
The Newcomers: Tech Villains and GPS Hippos
The central conflict of Toy Story 5 revolves around Bonnie, who is now eight years old and starting to trade her action figures for a screen. This shift is personified by the film’s new antagonist, Lilypad.
- Greta Lee as Lilypad: Fresh off her acclaimed role in Past Lives, Greta Lee voices Lilypad—a sleek, high-tech smart tablet with a “disruptive” idea of what playtime should look like. Lee’s voice brings a confident, almost-too-friendly corporate energy that makes her the perfect digital foil for Woody’s old-school charm.
- Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants: The late-night legend joins the cast as a “know-it-all” toilet training tech toy. Expect Conan’s signature wit to provide plenty of cynical comic relief.
- Craig Robinson as Atlas: Robinson voices a “cheerful talking GPS hippo toy.” Given Robinson’s comedic timing, Atlas is sure to be a fan favorite among the new Toy Story 5 new characters.
- Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase: The Bear star Matty Matheson voices a “tech-fearing toy” who is ironically a daredevil peanut.
- Shelby Rabara as Snappy: An excitable, diminutive purple camera toy that rounds out the new additions to Bonnie’s room.
The New Face of Bonnie and Her Friends
As the human characters age, Pixar has opted for some fresh talent to match Bonnie’s growth. Scarlett Spears takes over the role of a now 8-year-old Bonnie, replacing Madeleine McGraw from the fourth film.
We also meet Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, an independent 8-year-old girl who loves animals and will likely play a pivotal role in the toys’ journey outside the bedroom.
Honoring the Legends: Bittersweet Character Recasts
Perhaps the most emotional aspect of the Toy Story 5 voice cast is the recasting of legacy characters. Since Toy Story 4, we have sadly lost several of the franchise’s most iconic voices. To keep the gang together, Pixar has brought in seasoned voice actors to honor the original performances.
- Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head: Taking over for the legendary Don Rickles, Bergman (known for his work on Looney Tunes) slides into the role of the sarcastic spud. While Rickles’ voice was preserved through archival recordings in the fourth film, Bergman will provide the character’s first fully new dialogue since the third movie.
- Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head: Vocino replaces the late Estelle Harris, bringing a nurturing (but still sassy) energy to the role.
- Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl: With the passing of Carl Weathers, Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson steps into the camouflage boots of Combat Carl. It’s a fitting tribute to Weathers, as Hudson brings a similar gravelly authority to the action figure.
- John Hopkins as Mr. Pricklepants: Taking over from Timothy Dalton, Hopkins brings a new layer of theatrical dignity to the Shakespeare-loving hedgehog.
The Returning Icons: Woody, Buzz, and Jessie
Despite the new faces, the heart of the franchise remains intact. Tom Hanks (Woody) and Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear) are back, continuing a partnership that has spanned over three decades.
The trailer also confirms that Joan Cusack (Jessie) is central to the plot, as she is the one who initiates the rescue mission to bring Woody back from his “lost toy” life with Bo Peep (Annie Potts). And yes, the trailer even teases an “Army of Buzz Lightyears”—all stuck in demo mode—which will likely require Tim Allen to pull double (or triple) duty.
A New Chapter or a Final Goodbye?
The Toy Story 5 voice cast represents a bold new chapter for Pixar. By blending Hollywood heavy-hitters like Greta Lee and Conan O’Brien with seasoned voice veterans like Jeff Bergman, the studio is ensuring that the franchise stays relevant for a new generation while respecting the history of the characters we grew up with.
But with themes of “obsolescence” and “digital takeover” at the forefront, one has to wonder if this is truly the toys’ final stand against a world that is moving on.
What do you think of the new casting choices? Can Jeff Bergman fill the iconic shoes (and detachable eyes) of Don Rickles? And which new character are you most excited to see—Lilypad the tablet or Dr. Nutcase? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
