The Memory Wipe is Permanent: A Heartbreaking Opening

Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton released THREE FULL pages of the film’s script, and we’re dissecting every line!

The script confirms that the film begins nine months after the events of 2021’s No Way Home. In a clever meta-twist, director Cretton notes that the iconic Marvel Studios opening logo will be altered: instead of the usual hero highlights, it will showcase “the memories Peter no longer shares with Ned and MJ and Aunt May”.

Peter is living in the same dingy apartment where we last saw him, and the director’s notes describe him as having “vanished from existence like Marty [McFly]” from Back to the Future. He is, for the first time in his MCU history, entirely alone.

Goodbye Stark Tech, Hello DIY Genius

For fans who missed the “science nerd” side of Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is your dream come true. The script makes it clear: the Stark money and high-tech gadgets are gone.

  • The Homemade Fabricator: Instead of a billionaire-funded lab, Peter uses a “3D printer on steroids” to build his gear.
  • The New AI (Meet E.V.): Peter has created a new AI assistant named E.V. while operating on a limited budget. Heartbreakingly, Cretton’s notes describe the AI as “the closest thing Peter has to a friend”.
  • The Mementos: Peter still keeps Ned’s LEGO Emperor figurine and MJ’s coffee cup as relics of a life he can no longer claim.

A Classic New Suit Inspired by the Multiverse

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day script officially confirms that Peter’s new suit is a handcrafted masterpiece. Inspired by his meeting with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, the new look focuses on “real fabric, seams, and wrinkles,” moving away from the sleek nanosuits of previous films.

The “Spider-y Life-Cycle” Mystery

One of the most intriguing details found in the annotations is a physical toll Peter is experiencing. The script describes a “small, sharp headache”—an inkling that living in the shadows is changing him “not for the better”. This likely links to trailer footage showing Peter in a cocoon-like state, suggesting he may be entering a new, more biological phase of his spider powers.

“Begin Montage”: The Street-Level Villains

The third page of the script concludes with an action beat where Peter hears a police report and swings into the night, leading into a montage. This sequence is expected to show Peter’s evolution over a four-year time jump as he tangles with street-level threats.

Rumored villains for this montage and beyond include:

  • Tombstone (Marvin Jones III)
  • Scorpion (Michael Mando)
  • Boomerang and Tarantula

Beyond the montage, the film is set to explore deeper threats like The Hand (a ninja monk clan), a “Savage Hulk” version of Bruce Banner, and the potential inclusion of Frank Castle (The Punisher).

Will Peter Ever Tell MJ the Truth?

The script concludes its sneak peek with Peter reading the letter he wrote to MJ at the end of No Way Home. His final lines are a gut-punch: “Maybe that’s my responsibility: to live alone with the truth. But the truth is I love you… Or maybe right now I just need to be Spider-Man”.

Spider-Man Brand New Day Tom Holland Zendaya Peter Parker MJ

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.

What do you think “E.V.” stands for? Our best guess is “Eleanor Vaughn,” but we want to hear your wildest theories! Drop a comment below and let’s discuss if Spidey is better off without the Stark tech.
