The Biggest Movie Event of the Year (That You Couldn’t Stream)

Every spring, thousands of theater owners, studio executives, and journalists descend upon Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for CinemaCon—the annual gathering where Hollywood’s biggest players roll out their most anticipated footage, announce surprise sequels, and try to convince exhibitors that the theatrical experience isn’t just alive, but thriving.

The 2026 edition was nothing short of historic. We got our first look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. We learned that Top Gun 3 is officially happening. We saw extended footage from The Mandalorian and GroguToy Story 5Masters of the Universe, and a surprise R-rated Bloodborne animated film. Mel Brooks—at 99 years old—sent a video announcing Spaceballs: The New One. And Warner Bros. revealed plans for 18 theatrical releases in 2027 alone.

If you couldn’t be in the room at Caesars Palace, don’t worry. We were. And we’ve compiled every single announcement, trailer breakdown, and surprise reveal from every major studio presentation into one massive, superfan-friendly recap.

Let’s dive in.

Disney / Marvel / Star Wars

The Big One: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer Finally Reveals Doctor Doom

Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers saved the best for last, closing out Disney’s presentation with the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday—and the first official look at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom.

The Footage Breakdown:

The trailer opens on the ruins of the Xavier Institute. Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier stares at a bright light in the sky. A voice narrates—presumably Downey’s Doom: “Something is coming. Something we might not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall divest with an unthinkable decision.”

We see Doom in shadowy profile. Then the footage cuts to Avengers Tower—but it looks different. Transformed. We see the Fantastic Four meeting with the Avengers and Thunderbolts. Letitia Wright’s Shuri meets with Tenoch Huerta’s Namor. Then James Marsden’s Cyclops walks into a room—wearing a comics-accurate suit, no less.

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor speaks: “I’ve fought with many allies. They all died facing threats that scare me far less than this new one.”

What follows is a montage of fan-service chaos:

  • Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi fights Channing Tatum’s Gambit inside the X-Mansion
  • The Wakandans meet the Fantastic Four
  • Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique transforms into Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova
  • Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm holds Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm as Namor flies overhead
  • Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man kisses his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton)—her first confirmation in the film

Thor rallies the heroes: “Put aside your petty squabbles. Presume nothing except this—if you return, we will return as brothers and sisters.”

Then Thor leaps at Doom with Stormbreaker. Doom blocks the weapon. With one hand.

Thor laments: “We’ll need a miracle.”

And then—”Hey, pal.”

Thor turns. “It’s not possible.”

Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers appears. He’s long-haired, scraggly, even more disheveled than in Infinity War. He summons Mjolnir from Thor’s hand.

The crowd lost it.

What We Learned:

  • Avengers: Doomsday has entered post-production
  • Avengers: Secret Wars is now in pre-production
  • Chris Evans took the stage after the trailer, joking with Downey: “This Doom guy… I don’t like him.” Downey shot back: “Them’s fighting words.”
  • The trailer is not yet online. Marvel is holding it until The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters in late May.

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Opening Sequence Screened in Full

Jon Favreau appeared on stage to discuss bringing Star Wars back to the big screen. He revealed that he and Dave Filoni shot 49 minutes of alternate aspect ratio footage for IMAX and other premium formats.

Then they screened the film’s entire opening sequence—and it’s a banger.

Opening Sequence Breakdown:

The film opens with text explaining the Empire has fallen. Warlords are scattered, hunted by Mando and Grogu. Cut to a meeting of the Imperial Remnant. A leader tells his troops: “You are the lucky few. That which I provide is expensive. The galaxy will demand the Empire’s return. Long live the Empire!”

The troopers respond unenthusiastically.

When a subordinate questions the cost, the leader shoots him. An alarm blares. More troopers are dragged into the dark and shot. We see a POV shot from a mouse droid as troopers fall.

Mando emerges from the shadows, using his flamethrower. The remaining troopers surrender. Grogu uses the Force to blow up the escaping mouse droid.

An AT-RT walker approaches. Mando takes out the rider, hops on, and blows up the walker. He tells Grogu: “What are you waiting for? Hop on!”

They dodge AT-AT walkers. Mando’s AT-RT is hit, so he jetpacks to an AT-AT, plants an explosive, and sends it toppling. He fights through another walker, forces his way into the cockpit, and blows it up.

Then he realizes the last AT-AT is on autopilot—stuffed with explosives. Grogu taps his helmet in alarm. Mando says: “I know.”

He uses the walker’s guns to shoot down the escaping leader’s ship.

They board a ship piloted by none other than Zeb from Star Wars Rebels. Zeb tells Mando: “It’s better if you bring them in alive.”

The sequence ends with an actual opening credits sequence—a first for Star Wars—and cuts to a New Republic base where Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Ward assigns Mando his next mission: find Commander Coin on Nal Hutta. The only person who knows his location? Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s surviving heir.

Zeb convinces Mando to take the job. The film ends its opening with Mando and Grogu blasting into hyperspace on a new Razor Crest.

Also Mentioned:

  • Star Wars: Starfighter (the Luca Guadagnino-directed film starring Ryan Gosling) got a brief mention but no new footage
  • Favreau confirmed The Mandalorian and Grogu opens May 22, 2026

‘Toy Story 5’ Horror Parody and Woody’s Return

Disney screened two extended clips from Toy Story 5 (in theaters June 19, 2026).

Clip One: The Battle of Toys vs. Tech

Bonnie gets her first Lilypad device (a clear iPad parody). The music turns spooky. Bonnie ignores her toys, staring at the screen through day and night. Her dad tries to enforce screen time limits; she resists.

When Bonnie leaves, the toys freak out. Jessie tries talking to Lilypad, but the device calls her “Jessica” and notes she’s been passed through three kids: “Yikes, you are really old.”

Rex screams: “Extinction?! Not again!”

Clip Two: Woody Returns

Woody and Bo Peep return to Bonnie’s window, looking heroic. Woody has a bald spot and a bigger belly. Forky asks: “Why are you wearing a dress?!”

Buzz and Woody embrace, then argue over who is Jessie’s deputy. Bo Peep leaves with Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves) waiting on his bike. The clip ends with a montage featuring an army of Buzz Lightyears.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen appeared on stage together for the first time at CinemaCon to discuss the film.

‘Hexed’: Disney Animation’s New Original

Hailee Steinfeld stars as Billie, a young woman who discovers a talking spellbook. The clip showed Billie sneezing on the dusty book, hearing “Bless you,” and realizing the book, pen, and ink can all speak.

The pen encourages her: “Go on, Love… DIP ME!” After signing, a wall opens to reveal a hidden world of magic.

Hexed hits theaters November 25, 2026.

Live-Action ‘Moana’ Footage and Dwayne Johnson’s Emotional Speech

Dwayne Johnson took the stage to discuss the live-action Moana (July 10, 2026). He showed a photo of his grandfather—the inspiration for Maui—and spoke about the importance of spotlighting Pacific Islanders.

“Moana is not a princess,” Johnson said. “She’s a warrior. And men of all ages should empower and support all women. That’s what real masculinity looks like.”

The clip featured glimpses of “Where You Are,” “You’re Welcome,” and Maui fighting Te Kā.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Clip and Release Date

Anne Hathaway appeared via video message. The clip showed Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly insulting someone over a “bum bag,” deadpanning: “May my suicide be quick and painless.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens May 1, 2026.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Extended Clip

Sony kicked off its presentation with a new clip from Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026).

The Clip Breakdown:

Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is at a coffee shop. He watches Ned (Jacob Batalon) place an order, then follows him to a party. Peter walks in with flowers, trying to blend in.

He finds Ned’s room, covered in Spider-Man articles and memorabilia. It turns out Ned knows Spider-Man saved him in high school and has been trying to identify him ever since. He created an app called “Spider-Tracker” and has two prime suspects: Flash Thompson and Martin Starr’s Roger Harrington.

MJ (Zendaya) arrives, complaining about the crowd. She notices Peter. He introduces himself as “Maynard.” She says: “Nice flowers.” He responds: “Friendly neighbor!”

MJ’s new boyfriend—played by Ahsoka‘s Eman Esfandi—walks in and kisses her. Peter is not happy.

The clip ended with a sizzle reel of Spider-Man taking on Damage Control agents, saying: “I’m not in high school anymore!”

‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Extended Footage

The final chapter of Miles Morales’ story arrives June 18, 2027. Sony screened early, unfinished footage from the film’s opening.

The Footage:

Miles (Miles 1) wakes up chained to a bag in an alternate dimension. The other Miles (Miles 2) and Uncle Aaron confront him. Miles 2 says: “Morales? You can’t even say it right.”

Miles 1 explains canon events. They think it sounds ridiculous. He begins to glitch. Miles 2 says: “You’re pretty mouthy for a guy chained to a bag.”

Miles 1 responds: “You know what they say? Don’t watch the mouth. Watch the hands.”

He blasts free. The footage cuts to a montage of Gwen waking up, Miles fighting himself, Peter B. Parker handing baby May to Spider-Ham (who says he’s “all out of milk”), and glimpses of Kingpin, The Spot, and Spider-Man 2099.

Rio tells Miles: “I asked you to be tough. You’re not tough. You’re strong.”

New images were also released showing Miles 2, Spider-Man 2099, and Gwen in action.

Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides Dune Part 3

When they land, the Fremen are amazed by rain—water from the sky! They crawl under a tower to get coordinates and call in a strike. The footage ends with a coward running from incoming fire and getting blown away.

‘Mortal Kombat II’ Clip: Johnny Cage vs. Baraka

The clip shows Liu Kang challenging Baraka to single combat. Baraka declines. Johnny Cage calls them both “giant f****** p******.” Baraka decides to fight Cage instead.

Cage says: “I have stuntmen to do this s*** for me.” He dodges Baraka’s blows, telling him not to hurt his “beautiful face.” He flees into a hut with Baraka-like kids, gets thrown into a pit, finds his sunglasses, and punches Baraka in the groin.

Jax responds: “Goddamn!”

Mortal Kombat II fights into theaters May 8, 2026.

‘Supergirl’ Footage and Cast Appearance

Director Craig Gillespie, Milly Alcock, and Jason Momoa (as Lobo, arriving on a motorcycle) appeared on stage. Alcock wore a t-shirt with a Superman logo variant—two overlapping C’s.

The Footage:

Kara puts on goggles, boards public transportation. An alien is smoking a hookah; she asks him to stop. She notices a young girl (Eve Ridley’s Ruthye) in trouble and screams at a large alien.

Tech pirates board the ship. One takes a small orb from Kara. Another wants Ruthye’s sword. Kara grabs the alien’s teleport device and teleports to the pilot. She asks how close they are to a yellow sun, puts on a spacesuit, and gets thrown into space.

The yellow sun rises. Kara flies back, gets shot by a laser, and uses heat vision to block it.

The montage continues: Kara and Krypto in an escape pod. Superman shows up. Kara describes him to Ruthye as a “fricking nerd.” Kara fights Lobo. The final shot: Kara blasting heat vision at her enemies.

Alcock revealed she had to learn five languages for the role, and that there was no real Krypto on set—”a lot of miming.”

Supergirl opens June 26, 2026.

‘Clayface’ Footage: “Look Fear in the Face”

Peter Safran called the film a “riveting horror-thriller.” The clip showed a man with extensive face bandages in a hospital bed. We see experimental injections. The tagline appears: “Look Fear in the Face.”

Clayface releases October 23, 2026.

‘Digger’ Footage with Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iñárritu

Tom Cruise (looking older and heavyset, with a Southern accent) holds a dying cat as “Burning Down the House” plays. He’s told his cat has “two weeks and five minutes” to live.

He’s contacted about environmental damage at a drilling site. He screams: “I’m paying for everything! You say the f****** word and it’s done!”

John Goodman plays the President of the United States, asking how Cruise caused millions of displaced people and left nuclear waste. Goodman says: “Digger here got us into this mess, and Digger’s gonna dig us out of it again!”

The footage ends with Cruise and Goodman dropping bombs onto ice, and Cruise bathing his cat.

Digger opens October 2, 2026.

Cut to a funeral. A man says: “My grandfather believed the dead would return if you read from the book of the dead.”

Fingers are chopped off by a slamming door. A giant wolf leaps at someone. A girl drinks hot candle wax like a shot. The woman with the seatback in her head yanks it out and walks toward a man, who falls back onto utensils in the open dishwasher.

Universal Pictures

Untitled Snoop Dogg Biopic

Snoop Dogg himself opened Universal’s presentation, performing “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” The film stars Jonathan Daviss as Snoop and is directed by Craig Brewer (produced by Brian Grazer/Imagine Entertainment, of 8 Mile fame).

“This is the spiritual cousin to Straight Outta Compton,” said Universal chairwoman Donna Langley.

Snoop joked: “After my brothers told their story in Straight Outta Compton, it’s my turn.” He also revealed he has a bungalow on the Universal lot next to Spielberg, and that the fire department has been called twice due to all the smoke.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Nolan appeared on stage, saying he’s wanted to film an epic in IMAX since he was 16. He approached IMAX to create new cameras that could capture both scope and dialogue.

He called The Odyssey “a story about family and homecoming above all,” praising Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland as the “central trio.”

Footage shown was largely the same as the Trojan Horse IMAX sequence released months ago, but with new shots of battlefield carnage and Charlize Theron as Calypso, where Damon’s Odysseus says he has no memory of his life before the Trojan War.

‘Minions & Monsters’ Footage

Illumination’s next Minions film is set in the 1920s. A group of Minions in Los Angeles searches for a new master.

The footage showed cowboys pursuing a thief, only for Minions to replace them. The thief flees onto a train, then a plane. The Minions pull the plane down into the streets of LA. They meet an aspiring director voiced by Christoph Waltz.

Later, the Minions become movie stars—until talkies arrive and they can’t handle dialogue. They lose their studio jobs, but their human friends decide to make their own movie: Minions & Monsters. Things go wrong. The world is endangered.

‘Violent Night 2’ Trailer

David Harbour’s Santa says: “A few years ago, I had an experience.” Now he’s on his own naughty list, loses his magic, and plummets into a mall parking lot.

A child asks why he’s on the naughty list. Santa: “Maybe I killed too many people. I don’t know.”

Jared Harris orders his underlings to kill Santa. A kitchen fight ensues: Santa uses a cookie cutter to slice off cookie-shaped chunks of skin and bakes a guy in an oven. Kristen Bell’s Mrs. Claus joins with a giant hammer.

‘Focker In-Law’ Trailer

Ben Stiller appeared on stage, joking: “I’m Ben Stiller. I am the actor who is not in The Odyssey. I was backstage just now smoking a blunt with Snoop and Spielberg.” Robert De Niro joined him.

The trailer shows De Niro’s Jack putting Ariana Grande’s Olivia in a lie detector: “I test all potential family members this way.” Skyler Gisondo’s Henry wants to propose, but Stiller’s Greg doesn’t trust her. The film pits Greg against Olivia, mirroring the original’s Jack vs. Greg dynamic.

Stiller joked: “We’ll see you in 15 years for the next one, Project: Hail Focker.”

‘Disclosure Day’ Extended Trailer and Spielberg’s Promise

Steven Spielberg made his first-ever CinemaCon appearance, introduced by Colman Domingo. He called Disclosure Day “an experience” and said: “All you need to get from the beginning to the end is a seat belt.”

The extended trailer reveals that Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor’s characters were abducted by aliens as children and share a forgotten psychic bond. They use complex math to figure out the alien conspiracy.

Spielberg promised nothing from the third act will appear in any trailer. The tagline: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people.”

Disclosure Day hits theaters June 12, 2026.

Other Universal Highlights

  • Sense and Sensibility (Focus Features): Georgia Oakley directing. Trailer shown, not yet online.
  • Werwulf (Focus Features): Robert Eggers’ latest horror film, shot in the same aspect ratio as The Lighthouse. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily Rose-Depp, Willem Dafoe. Footage Breakdown:

Dark Helmet’s helmet lies in the sand. He fights Yogurt with a five-pronged lightsaber. Yogurt’s shirt is sliced open, revealing ripped abs.

Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz use a urinal. A Na’vi walks up next to them and begins to pee. Dark Helmet looks at his crotch and says: “I see you!” in Na’vi.

Adam grabs his sword. Beastman knocks him down, sends him flying into a truck. Teela (Camila Mendes) blasts Beastman with her laser staff.

Skeletor (Jared Leto) says: “The universe shall quake in my shadow.” He-Man launches on his flying bike. Skeletor taunts: “You can pretend to be the hero, but without that sword, who are you?”

He-Man’s strength saves the day, sending foes flying.

Director Travis Knight explained the premise: “If you watch the Filmation cartoon, every episode Skeletor had some grand design. He’d get his ass kicked and promise to return next week. We wondered what would happen if he actually won. That’s how our movie starts.”

Masters of the Universe opens June 5, 2026.

‘Highlander’ Footage: John Wick Vibes

Henry Cavill (looking disheveled) sent a video message. Footage set to Queen’s “We Will Rock You” showed red lanterns, visually dynamic action, and Bautista’s Kurgan saying: “When my sword changes history, you’ll have a front row seat!”

The action evoked John Wick but even more heightened.

“This job is personal,” Jordan says. The footage ends with Jordan being launched up the side of a building.

‘Beekeeper 2’ Footage

Jason Statham appeared in a video, calling the audience his “CinemaCon nerds.” The footage shows Jeremy Irons’ character warning that “someone is coming to kill you.” Statham’s Adam Clay takes out soldiers, kills a guy with a flamethrower, and says: “Don’t be so hot-headed!”

Beekeeper 2 releases January 15, 2027.

‘I Play Rocky’ Footage

Peter Farrelly directs this Sylvester Stallone biopic. Anthony Ippolito plays young Sly. The footage shows Stallone being told he doesn’t have the looks to be a movie star—”not to mention you talk like you have rocks in your mouth.”

He refuses to sell the Rocky script unless he stars. He takes a lower salary. A threat: if production falls behind, he’ll be replaced.

The footage ends with a guy asking Stallone how long he’s been boxing. Stallone: “I’ve never boxed in my life.” The guy: “Well, that’s kind of a big note.”

I Play Rocky opens November 13, 2026.

The Biggest Questions Coming Out of CinemaCon 2026

Now that we’ve processed everything, here are the five biggest questions we’re taking away from this year’s presentations:

1. When will the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer go online?

Marvel is holding it until The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters in late May. That means fans who can’t wait will have to buy a ticket. Smart strategy. Frustrating for those of us who want to rewatch the Steve Rogers reveal on loop.

2. Can Jamie Dornan pull off Aragorn?

Viggo Mortensen set an incredibly high bar. Dornan has the range (The FallBelfast), but stepping into Strider’s boots is no small task. The internet will have opinions.

3. Is ‘Top Gun 3’ going to top ‘Maverick’?

Top Gun: Maverick was a cultural phenomenon—$1.5 billion, six Oscar nominations, and the consensus “movie that saved theaters.” The sequel has a near-impossible act to follow. But if anyone can do it, it’s Tom Cruise.

4. Will ‘Spaceballs: The New One’ work without Mel Brooks directing?

Brooks is 99 and sent a video, but he’s not on set. Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) directs. The footage looks promising, but Spaceballs is sacred ground for comedy fans.

5. How is Warner Bros. going to release 18 films in one year?

That’s more than one per month. It’s an ambitious—some might say insane—slate. But after the A Minecraft Movie Chicken Jockey memes turned into nearly a billion dollars, maybe they know something we don’t.

Theatrical Exhibition Is Alive and Kicking

CinemaCon 2026 proved one thing beyond any doubt: the movies are not dead. Not even close.

We saw Robert Downey Jr. return to the MCU as a villain. We saw Tom Cruise commit to another death-defying sequel. We saw Mel Brooks—at 99—still making jokes about merging studios and Na’vi urinals. We saw studios commit to theatrical windows, premium formats, and ambitious release schedules that would have seemed impossible five years ago.

The next 18 months of film are absolutely stacked. Avengers: DoomsdayThe Mandalorian and GroguToy Story 5Masters of the UniverseTop Gun 3Spaceballs: The New OneDune: Part 3SupergirlThe Batman: Part II.

And that’s just scratching the surface.

What are you most excited to see? Are you Team Downey-as-Doom? Are you ready for another trip to the danger zone? And does anyone actually want that Jackass popcorn bucket? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
