Netflix’s supernatural phenomenon “Wednesday” has struck lightning twice.

The highly anticipated second season has achieved exactly 50 million views within its first five days on the platform, perfectly mirroring the record-breaking performance of Season 1’s November 2022 debut.

Identical Success Despite Different Release Strategy

The viewership numbers reveal remarkable consistency for the Addams Family series. Season 1 initially recorded 341.1 million hours viewed in five days, which translates to approximately 50.1 million views when divided by the season’s six hours and 49 minutes runtime—virtually identical to Season 2’s current performance.

However, there’s a crucial difference in release strategy that makes Season 2’s achievement even more impressive. While Season 1 dropped all eight episodes simultaneously, Season 2 premiered with only four episodes on August 4, with Part 2 scheduled for September 3. This means the current viewership milestone was reached with significantly less available content.

Record-Breaking Global Dominance

Wednesday Season 2 has already shattered international records, becoming the English-language TV title to reach No. 1 in the most countries during a single week—an unprecedented 91 nations. This global dominance demonstrates the series’ truly worldwide appeal and cultural impact.

The show’s return also created a beneficial ripple effect for Netflix, with Season 1 climbing back to become the week’s second-most-watched English-language title as renewed interest brought both new and returning viewers to the franchise.

Potential for Netflix History

Given Season 1’s status as Netflix’s most popular English-language TV series ever and second-most-popular title overall (trailing only “Squid Game” Season 1), Season 2 is positioned to potentially claim the ultimate Netflix crown. The extended release schedule could sustain viewer engagement longer than traditional full-season drops, potentially driving total viewership beyond Season 1’s final numbers.

With four more episodes releasing in September and continued accumulation of views on current episodes, Season 2 has multiple opportunities to surpass its predecessor and claim Netflix’s top spot.

Dominating the Competition

During the August 4-10 viewing week, “Wednesday” Season 2 completely dominated Netflix’s charts. The competition wasn’t even close, with third-place “Untamed” managing only 7.2 million views in its fourth week—less than 15% of Wednesday’s opening performance.

Other notable titles included “The Hunting Wives” with 4.7 million views, the August 4 edition of “Raw: 2025” with 3 million views, and “Perfect Match” Season 3 debuting with 2.8 million views alongside “Leanne’s” second week. The chart’s bottom tier featured “Amy Bradley Is Missing” (4 million), “Ms. Rachel” (2 million), and “Conversations With a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes” (1.7 million).

The Addams Family Formula Continues

The consistent viewership performance validates Netflix’s investment in the Wednesday Addams character and the creative team’s ability to maintain quality across seasons. With Jenna Ortega’s iconic portrayal continuing to captivate global audiences, the series has proven that lightning can indeed strike twice in the competitive streaming landscape.

As viewers eagerly await Part 2’s September release, Season 2 appears poised not just to match Season 1’s success, but potentially surpass it entirely, cementing “Wednesday” as one of Netflix’s most successful franchises ever.
