The Spice Must Flow, But Villeneuve Must Go
Hold onto your stillsuits, Dune fans! Director Denis Villeneuve is ready to bid farewell to the sandy world of Arrakis. In a recent chat with Vanity Fair, the mastermind behind the epic Dune revival dropped some bombshells about the future of the franchise.

Two’s Company, Three’s a Crowd?
First things first: Villeneuve wants to set the record straight about his Dune journey. “It’s not a trilogy,” he insists. “It’s more like… a cinematic sandcastle.” Okay, he didn’t actually say that last part, but he did explain:
“It was really a diptych. A pair of movies adapting the first book. That’s done and dusted.”
But wait, there’s more! Villeneuve confirmed he’s writing a third Dune film. Plot twist: it won’t be a continuation of the first two, but rather its own beast.

Dune: Messiah or Dune: Midlife Crisis?
The next installment, likely based on “Dune Messiah,” takes place 12 years after the events of the first book. This presents a unique challenge: aging up the cast. How will Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya look with a decade of desert life under their belts?

Villeneuve’s response? “That’s my problem. I know how to do that.” Spoken like a true cinematic sorcerer.
Passing the Sandworm… Er, Torch
While Villeneuve is excited about Dune: Messiah, he’s also ready to hand over the reins. “After years on Arrakis, I’d love to do something else,” he admits. But fear not, Dune devotees! Villeneuve hopes to plant seeds for future filmmakers to explore the increasingly “esoteric” later books in the series.
The Spice Must Flow (With or Without Denis)
Villeneuve may be stepping away, but he’s not slamming the door shut on Dune’s cinematic future. He’s open to other directors taking on the challenge, even if the later books are “trickier to adapt.”

So, there you have it. Denis Villeneuve: Dune director, visionary filmmaker, and soon-to-be sandworm retiree. As for the future of Dune on the big screen? Only the prescient eyes of a Kwisatz Haderach could tell us for sure.
