The highly secretive live-action comedy collaboration between hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will not be hitting theaters anytime soon. Paramount Pictures has pulled the trio’s untitled feature from its March 20, 2026, release date, delaying the theatrical debut indefinitely as the production teams continue to work on the project.

The Second Major Calendar Shift

This marks the second major delay for the long-gestating film. When the project was first unveiled in 2024, it was set for a prime July 4, 2025, holiday slot. That date was later pushed to March 20, 2026. Now, just four months before that revised date, the film has been yanked from the calendar entirely, with no new date immediately set.

Working Hard at Finishing the Movie

The creative teams offered a simple explanation for the delay in a joint statement attributed to Parker and Stone’s production banner, Park County, and Lamar’s company, PGLang: “It’s true – we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.”

Details Remain Closely Guarded

Despite the film’s high-profile producers, almost nothing is known about the project. The persistent lack of an official title is indicative of the closely guarded secrecy surrounding the live-action collaboration. Neither cast members nor an official logline have been revealed to the public. What is confirmed is that the film is written by comedian Vernon Chatman, with Lamar, Parker, and Stone producing alongside Dave Free for PGLang.

High-Profile Creators Continue Dominating

The delay comes as both sets of creators continue to dominate their respective fields. Lamar is riding a wave of critical acclaim, having recently earned nine nominations for the 2026 Grammys for his smash album GNX and single Luther. He also previously swept two of the top three Grammy categories last year for his single “Not Like Us.” Meanwhile, Parker and Stone are deep into production on South Park Season 28, continuing to premiere their signature Trump-skewering episodes every other Wednesday on Comedy Central.

Given the immense star power and the perfectionist track records of all three creatives, the indefinite delay suggests a commitment to ensuring the mysterious comedy meets their high standards, prioritizing quality over the originally aggressive release timeline. Fans will have to wait patiently for the highly anticipated union of the hip-hop icon and the subversive comedy legends.
