A New Chapter of Moonlit Mischief

Directed by Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, Bird Box), the sequel pulls us back into a world where magic is a family business—and business is about to get complicated. The Practical Magic 2 trailer teases a story that honors the original New England charm while upping the stakes for a modern audience.

Sally (Bullock) is now navigating the trials of raising adult daughters who are beginning to discover their own supernatural heritage. Meanwhile, Gilly (Kidman) has supposedly settled into a “cozy life,” though we all know Gilly Owens and “quiet” don’t stay in the same sentence for long. The peace is shattered when a mystery character played by Lee Pace arrives to pull the sisters away from their quaint town on a high-stakes “dramatic assignment.”

The Coven is Growing: Meet the Cast

One of the most exciting reveals in the Practical Magic 2 trailer is the massive influx of talent joining the franchise. Warner Bros. isn’t just relying on nostalgia; they’ve built a powerhouse ensemble:

The Next Gen: Joey King (The Act), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) join the fold, likely playing the younger generation of the Owens bloodline.

The Legends: In the best news of the year, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are officially back as Aunts Frances and Jet. Their dry wit and elder-witch wisdom were the heartbeat of the first film, and their return ensures the sequel stays true to its roots.

The New Faces: Solly McLeod and the aforementioned Lee Pace round out a cast that feels perfectly balanced between indie credibility and blockbuster star power.

Based on Alice Hoffman’s ‘The Book of Magic’

For the bookworms among us, this sequel isn’t just pulling ideas out of a hat. The script, penned by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, is based on the 2021 novel The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman. This book serves as the fourth and final entry in her Practical Magic series, providing a rich, emotional foundation for the film to explore themes of ancestral curses and the enduring power of sisterhood.

When is the ‘Practical Magic 2’ Release Date?

Mark your calendars and prep your altars: Practical Magic 2 is set to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.

Releasing just as the leaves start to turn, the film is positioned to be the ultimate “cozy-spooky” cinematic event of the fall. With Bullock and Kidman also serving as producers alongside Denise DiNovi, there’s a clear sense that this project is a labor of love for everyone involved.

Is the Magic Still There?

Sequels to beloved classics can be a gamble, but with the original cast returning and a director like Susanne Bier at the helm, our intuition says this one is going to be special. The Practical Magic 2 trailer captures that rare blend of whimsy and darkness that made us fall in love with the Owens family back in the 90s.

Are you most excited to see Sally and Gilly’s reunion, or are you just here for the legendary Aunts Frances and Jet? And do you think Lee Pace is playing a friend or a new supernatural foe? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
