The Main Man Arrives! Krypto Is Absolutely Adorable and Jason Momoa’s Lobo Steals the Show in New Supergirl Trailer

Between space-fetch with Krypto and a "dead on" Lobo, Milly Alcock’s DCU debut is looking like a cosmic masterpiece.

A Space Fantasy Like No Other

Forget the gritty cityscapes of Metropolis or Gotham. Director Craig Gillespie has confirmed that the Supergirl movie Jason Momoa Lobo appearance takes place entirely in outer space. This isn’t your average superhero flick; James Gunn is calling it a “space fantasy,” and the trailer backs that up with sprawling interstellar vistas and a tone that feels worlds apart from last summer’s Superman.

The footage opens with a heavy emotional beat: a call from Clark Kent that Kara promptly ignores. She’s not interested in “super-advice” right now. Instead, we see her playing fetch with Krypto in the vacuum of space, a sequence that is as charming as it is visually stunning. However, the stakes escalate quickly. Kara is haunted by the destruction of Krypton, and the film clearly isn’t shying away from the trauma of her origin.

The Race to Save Krypto

The plot’s driving force is surprisingly personal. Krypto has been poisoned by the Brigands, and he has only three days to live. This sends Kara on a journey of vengeance and justice to find an antidote from the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by a menacing Matthias Schoenaerts. It’s a bold move to put the “Goodest Boy” in the galaxy in peril, but it immediately gives the audience a reason to root for Kara’s “total mess” of a protagonist.

The Main Man: Jason Momoa is Lobo

While Milly Alcock is the heart of the film, Jason Momoa is undeniably its adrenaline. After years of fan-casting and Momoa himself hinting that Lobo is his favorite character, the “Spacehog” has finally arrived. Momoa’s transition from the DCEU’s Aquaman to the DCU’s Lobo feels like a cosmic destiny fulfilled.

“We look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff… I’ll say the bike’s really cool.” — Jason Momoa

The trailer shows Lobo in all his cigar-chomping, chain-swinging glory, teaming up with Supergirl to clear out a bar full of interstellar lowlifes. While Momoa was quick to remind fans that “it’s her movie” and his role is a supporting one, his presence adds a layer of chaotic energy that the DCU has been craving. Seeing the last son of Czarnia side-by-side with the last daughter of Krypton creates a dynamic that is as hilarious as it is formidable.

Inspired by Greatness: Woman of Tomorrow

Hardcore comic fans will recognize the heavy DNA of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. That limited series redefined Kara Zor-El for a new generation, painting her as a hardened, weary, yet deeply moral warrior. The film seems to be capturing that “messy” personality perfectly. Milly Alcock’s Kara isn’t a polished symbol of hope yet—she’s a survivor looking for a purpose, and perhaps a bit of payback.

By leaning into the “interstellar journey” aspect, Gillespie and Gunn are ensuring that Supergirl stands alone as a unique pillar of the new DCU. It’s a bold, colorful, and seemingly heart-wrenching adventure that promises to be more than just a “super-cousin” spin-off.

Is the DCU Ready for a Space Fantasy?

With a release date of June 26, 2026, Supergirl is positioned to be the blockbuster event of the summer. Between the high-stakes mission to save Krypto and the perfect casting of Jason Momoa, the hype for the “Maid of Might” has never been higher.

What do you think of the new Lobo design? Does Momoa look as “dead on” as he claims, or were you hoping for a different look for the Main Man? And let’s be real—how many tissues are we going to need for this Krypto storyline? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
