Tim Burton can’t stop gushing about Lady Gaga.
At the London premiere of “Wednesday” Season 2, the gothic master praised his collaboration with the pop superstar, calling it “inspirational” and strongly hinting at future projects together.
A Perfect Creative Match
“She’s such an artist and so for me, working with an artist is inspirational,” Burton told Variety about Gaga’s guest role as Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher. “These people come on this set, you see the whole crew kind of light up. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.”
The mutual admiration runs deep. Burton recently teased at Italy’s Giffoni Film Festival that he’s “done something else with her,” though he remains coy about details. When pressed for confirmation, he simply said: “No, I can’t. But I hope so.”
Season 2 Goes Deeper Into Family Dysfunction
While Gaga couldn’t attend the premiere due to her Mayhem Ball tour, the season promises expanded storylines featuring new faces like Steve Buscemi as principal Barry Dort and Joanna Lumley as Wednesday’s formidable grandmother.
Burton revealed Season 2 focuses heavily on Addams family dynamics: “You have Wednesday and her mother and then Morticia and her mother. So I feel that delves a bit deeper into this weird family. Everybody says they have a family that’s weird but I’m like, name me one normal family.”
Catherine Zeta-Jones echoed this sentiment, praising her expanded role as Morticia: “You see the contention and the struggle and the kind of duel, and then I get the great Joanna Lumley to come play my mother and I’m equally as contentious and combative with her.”
What’s Next
Despite Netflix’s early Season 3 renewal, Burton remains focused on completing Season 2, which releases in two parts on August 6 and September 3. “We’re working on [Season 3] and stuff, but I’m still finishing one episode [of Season 2]. Shh,” he admitted.
The Burton-Gaga partnership represents a fascinating meeting of gothic sensibilities and pop artistry. With their creative chemistry clearly established and future collaborations seemingly in the works, fans have every reason to expect more supernatural magic from this unlikely duo.
